American Digital Education Launches $1 Million Grant Program for California K-12 Schools
Grants of $10,000 to $200,000 will fund ADE implementation in California school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools
CLOVIS, Calif., Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — American Digital Education (ADE) today announced a $1 million grant program for California K-12 schools. The program will award grants of $10,000 to $200,000 to California public school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools to fund the implementation of ADE in their classrooms, including student access, teacher training, and implementation support.

Grants are awarded first come, first served until all funds are committed. Each grant serves a minimum of 300 students, with no maximum. Districts choose which students, schools, and programs the grant supports, including classroom instruction, Attendance Recovery, and independent study.
The program comes as California districts continue to work on getting students back in class. The statewide chronic absenteeism rate was 19.4 percent in 2024-25, according to the California Department of Education. That represents 1,143,668 students and remains about 7 percentage points above pre-pandemic levels, according to Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE). California has set a goal of reducing chronic absence to 12.5 percent by 2030.
In 2024, the state created the Attendance Recovery program through Senate Bill 153, as amended by Senate Bill 176, to reduce the impact of chronic absenteeism on students’ academic continuity and on district funding. ADE includes dedicated features for Attendance Recovery, short-term independent study, and long-term independent study.
“Students miss instruction every day, either because they’re absent or because they get lost in class, and teachers don’t have the time to reteach every student who needs it,” said Derek Abbring, founder and CEO of American Digital Education. “ADE reteaches the moment a student misses. This grant lets districts see what that looks like with their own students and their own data.”
ADE is not a chatbot, tutor, or generative AI. It is full K-12 classroom instruction built on expert-crafted pedagogy drawn from more than 80 brain-researched learning science approaches, powered by deterministic AI that reteaches the moment a student misses. ADE also identifies the foundational skills each student is missing and recommends the lesson that teaches them. Lessons cover five core subjects and are available in English and Spanish. ADE’s technology is patent pending.
Eligible applicants are California public school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools that are not current ADE customers. Applications must be submitted by an authorized district representative and are reviewed in the order they are completed. Grants are valid for 12 months from award and require a matching contribution from the recipient.
