Congress Must Make 2027 America’s Anti-Corruption Year
Washington, D.C., Nov. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In the wake of voters’ decisive midterm rejection of the Trump administration’s corruption and abuse of power, the newly elected Congress needs to show leadership that meets this moment, starting with serious investigations, RepresentUs said today as it released its Accountability Agenda for Congress.
Since 2025, a mafia-like network of officials and their allies has been using the federal government to enrich insiders and intimidate critics, while gutting the systems that could hold them accountable.
“Mafias seek revenge, but democracies demand accountability,”said Maria McFarland Sánchez-Moreno, CEO of RepresentUs. “Voters have delivered a blistering indictment of this administration’s corruption, and now Congress needs to deliver, by making sure that America stops tolerating corruption and starts ending it.”
In its new Accountability Agenda for Congress, RepresentUs calls on the legislative branch to thoroughly and fairly investigate executive branch corruption, using all the tools at its disposal to establish the facts and create a path to accountability and lasting reform.
The agenda names four priority areas for investigation involving reported executive branch corruption and abuse of power: self-dealing, regulating for personal profit, pay-to-play practices, and the use of law enforcement as a weapon and shield.
Key illustrative cases include:
- the $620 million Pentagon loan to a start-up Donald Trump, Jr.’s firm had invested in, reportedly following White House intervention;
- a $500 million investment by a UAE royal in the Trump family’s crypto venture shortly before AI chip exports to the UAE were approved; and
- pardons that erased nearly $240 million in fines and restitution owed to victims, including for donors or people who hired well-connected lobbyists.
“The new Congress’s job is to drag the corruption into the light, and make sure that no president or party ever again treats our government as a profit-making enterprise,” said McFarland.
