Four ways to stay updated on the FIFA World Cup 2026
As the FIFA World Cup 2026™ unfolds across North America, Google is facilitating fans’ ability to keep up with every detail, regardless of their location. Whether you want to check the latest scores, find your way to a match, or catch up on the day’s highlights, Google Search, Maps, Waze, and the Gemini app provide comprehensive tools to bring you closer to the excitement.
By searching for soccer-related information, you can easily access real-time updates about the matches. This includes visuals for live scores, lineups, standings, brackets, stories, and social media content. For instance, during a match like Mexico vs. South Africa, you can see the scores, current standings, and other live match details. You also have the option to pin a match’s live score to your Android or iOS device’s lock screen by following a particular team or match, receiving updates before and after each game.
AI Mode in Search
AI Mode in Search can assist with a variety of tasks, from booking tickets to exploring complex questions about players, teams, and rules. If you’re interested in different soccer formations and their strategic uses, AI Mode can create an interactive visual tailored to your question. Currently, these features are available for AI Mode Pro and Ultra subscribers, but they will become accessible to everyone for free later this summer.
Navigation and Viewing
Google Maps and Waze provide the latest information about traffic, road closures, pedestrian areas, and transit routes, ensuring you can navigate the games with confidence. Updated Street View images of stadiums help you visualize the venue before arrival. For the first time, Waze will display live score updates when your vehicle is stationary.
If you don’t have stadium tickets, Google Maps can assist in finding viewing parties. Simply ask for a reservation in a place where you can watch the World Cup and connect with other fans.
Gemini App Features
The Gemini app offers real-time match information, including scores, highlights, standings, and more. It can convert standard text responses into dynamic visual elements, such as stats, images, and videos, turning the app into a vibrant matchday hub.
With Nano Banana templates, you can insert yourself into the action by uploading a photo to create scenes where you appear in your team’s kit, celebrating or playing in the game. These templates will be globally available soon in the new Images tab within Gemini. Just click the ‘+’ icon and ‘Create image’ in the prompt bar.
For Plus, Pro, or Ultra subscribers, the Gemini app allows you to set up Scheduled Actions for a personalized morning briefing on international soccer news. Customize the daily digest to focus on your favorite teams and players, receiving updates and summaries at your preferred time and frequency.
To configure this, go to ‘Settings’ in Gemini, select ‘Scheduled actions,’ and use the soccer news digest template, ensuring you remain informed throughout the tournament.
