Madhuri Dixit Sets the Record Straight on Pregnancy Rumors During Iconic ‘Dola Re Dola’ Shoot

Social media has been abuzz with a whirlwind of rumors suggesting that Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit was four months pregnant during the legendary ‘Dola Re Dola’ sequence from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 cinematic gem, Devdas. Stepping into the spotlight to clear the air, Madhuri recently addressed these swirling speculations with her trademark grace and authenticity.

In a candid conversation with SCREEN, Madhuri debunked the myth with a timeline that leaves no room for doubt. “Arin was born in 2003. You do the arithmetic,” she quipped, setting the record straight. Her eldest son, Arin Nene, came into the world on March 17, 2003, making him 23 years old today. Given that Devdas made its grand debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2002, and hit theaters on July 12, 2002, the math speaks for itself.

While Madhuri confirmed the rumors were unfounded, she did share the challenges of the demanding shoot. “Due to my frequent travels, I was feeling under the weather. I was shooting here and back, moving back and forth. And I did all of my shoots at night. So, that was really taxing for me,” Madhuri explained, adding, “I was a little under the weather, but nothing like that.”

The speculation sparked from comments made by Rubina Khan, a former associate of the late, revered choreographer Saroj Khan. Rubina recounted her version of events on the Bollywood Thikana podcast on YouTube, claiming that Madhuri faced difficulties during the lengthy filming of a particular dance step due to pregnancy-related vertigo and fever.

With this chapter put to rest, Madhuri Dixit is now channeling her energy into promoting her upcoming Netflix comedy-thriller, Maa Behan. The film, directed by Suresh Triveni, features an intriguing ensemble cast, including Ravi Kishan and Triptii Dimri. Maa Behen tells the story of a single mother, portrayed by Madhuri, who relies on her daughters, played by Triptii and Dharna Durgaa, for strength after a mysterious death occurs in their home. Catch this dark comedy, produced by Abundantia Entertainment in partnership with Opening Image Films, streaming on Netflix from June 4.
