Statement by Prime Minister Carney on Diwali

OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 8, 2026 /CNW/ — “Today, communities across Canada join millions around the world to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.

Celebrated by Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities, Diwali marks the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Across our country, families and friends will gather to light diyas, share meals, and honour traditions passed down through generations.

Diwali carries a shared message of hope. It reminds us that light is not only something we celebrate, but something we create – through acts of generosity, service, and the care we show one another.
